Over 5 million people affected by Luis, Maymay, Habagat — OCD

More than 5 million people have been affected by the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Monday.

As of 6 a.m., a total of 5,084,667 people or 1,450,747 families had been affected by the weather disturbances in the following regions:

  • Ilocos Region
  • Cagayan Valley
  • Central Luzon
  • Bicol
  • Western Visayas
  • Zamboanga Peninsula
  • Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)
  • Metro Manila
  • MIMAROPA

A total of 24,893 people or 7,182 families were staying in 523 evacuation centers, according to the OCD.

The OCD said 23 people were killed, 17 were injured, and one remained missing due to the bad weather.

Benguet recorded the highest number of fatalities at 15, with 10 deaths in Baguio City, three in Atok, and two in La Trinidad, all due to landslides.

Rizal recorded three fatalities—two from a rockslide in Rodriguez and one from a fallen tree in Antipolo. Batangas also reported three deaths due to drowning, electrocution, and a landslide

La Union recorded one death due to a landslide, while Quezon also reported one fatality due to drowning.

A total of 1,863 houses were damaged, 1,681 partially and 182 totally.

Infrastructure damage was estimated at P3,448,647,496, while damage to agriculture reached P689,662,316.

Meanwhile, the OCD said the government has provided P734,107,354 worth of assistance to affected communities. —AOL, GMA News
