OCD: Affected PH population due to Luis, Maymay, Habagat now over 4M

A total of 4,177,097 persons or 1,205,839 families have been affected by the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay and the southwest monsoon or Habagat, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Friday.

Based on the OCD's data as of 6 a.m., the affected population were reported from the following regions:

• Ilocos Region
• Cagayan Valley
• Central Luzon
• Bicol
• Western Visayas
• Zamboanga Peninsula
• CALABARZON
• Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)
• Metro Manila
• MIMAROPA

Of the affected population, a total of 51,912 people or 14,511 families were staying in 523 evacuation centers.

According to the OCD, the weather disturbances have left 21 people dead, 17 injured, and three missing.

Benguet recorded the highest number of fatalities with 15, with deaths reported in La Trinidad, Baguio and Atok, mostly due to landslides.

Rizal recorded three deaths, while Batangas also reported three fatalities due to drowning, electrocution, and a landslide.

The three missing persons were reported in Alaminos, Pangasinan; Batangas City; and Candelaria, Quezon.

A total of 1,428 houses were damaged. Of this number, 1,317 were partially damaged and 111 totally damaged.

Infrastructure damage was estimated at P2,647,707,229, while agricultural damage reached P347,372,392.

According to the OCD, the government has so far provided P495,415,334 worth of assistance to affected communities. — VDV, GMA News
