The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has announced the dates for its emergency loans to members and pensioners who live or work in areas placed under a state of calamity due to the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and tropical cyclones.

In a post on Facebook, GSIS said qualified members and pensioners may apply using the GSIS Touch app.

"Sa panahon ng pangangailangan, handang umagapay ang GSIS sa mga miyembro at pensioner sa pamamagitan ng Emergency Loan: tulong-pinansyal na maaaring sandigan sa pagtugon sa agarang pangangailangan at sa unti-unting pagbangon," it said.

Earlier, the state-run social insurance institution said eligible members and pensioners with existing emergency loans may borrow ₱40,000 to settle their outstanding emergency loan balance, with the remaining amount released to the borrower.

Those without existing loans may avail up to ₱20,000.

The GSIS Emergency Loan has an interest rate of 6% per annum and is payable over three years, it said.

Nonstop rains over the past two weeks have triggered widespread flooding across Metro Manila and several provinces, leaving many residents displaced and their homes submerged in floodwaters.

Several areas have declared a state of calamity due to the severity of the flooding's impact.

As of 6 a.m. on Thursday, the reported death toll from the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay and the Southwest Monsoon has climbed to 29, the Office of Civil Defense said.—LDF, GMA News
