OCD, other agencies, LGUs prepared for monsoon rains from habagat, tropical cyclones
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has conducted a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) with other government agencies and local government units as part of preparations for the effects of the habagat, and tropical cyclones outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
OCD Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV is expecting monsoon rains to start on Monday or Tuesday and continue until Thursday or Friday that can cause flooding, landslides, rising river levels and rising water levels in dams and reservoirs, and affect transportation and agriculture.
In a statement, the OCD intensified monitoring and coordination with other agencies and LGUs in areas that may be affected as well as the readiness of response teams, assets, and food and non-food items is also ensured for immediate and quick response.
"Samantala, pinapayuhan ang publiko na manatiling alerto at sumunod sa mga abiso ng awtoridad, lalo na sa mga nakatira sa mabababang lugar na madaling bahain at mga lugar na may banta ng pagguho ng lupa," the OCD added.
(Meanwhile, the public is advised to remain alert and follow the authorities' notices, especially those who live in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding and areas that are threatened by landslides.)
"Pinapayuhan din ang mga nasa baybayin at biyahero na iwasang pumalaot o bumiyahe kapag masama ang panahon," it added.
