Pangasinan under state of calamity amid Habagat impact

Pangasinan has been placed under a state of calamity amid the impact of the Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, on the province.

In an update on Monday, the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said the declaration was made through Provincial Resolution No. 985-2026 dated August 31.

The declaration is expected to facilitate the delivery of assistance and the implementation of response and recovery measures for affected communities.

Infrastructure damage from Habagat has reached P6.16 billion, while agricultural losses stood at P2.32 billion, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Monday.

OCD Disaster Preparedness Service director Vicente Gregorio Tomas said 724 areas were flooded across the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Metro Manila and Calabarzon.

Central Luzon accounted for the largest number of flooded areas, with 561 affected areas reported in Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales.

In other areas, 122 areas remained flooded in Pangasinan, 24 in Laguna, and 11 in Muntinlupa and Valenzuela. — MCG, GMA News
