White-bellied sea eagle entangled in wire rescued in General Santos City

A white-bellied sea eagle found entangled in a wire on a coconut tree in Barangay Olympog in General Santos City was rescued, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said Monday.

The bird was rescued by a resident on October 11 and he immediately reported it to the local environment officers.

The local DENR in General Santos City inspected the bird on October 15 and found no visible injuries.

"The bird is scheduled for transport to the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center at Sultan Kudarat State University–Lutayan Campus for proper care and rehabilitation before its eventual release into the wild, subject to assessment," said DENR Soccsksargen.

The local DENR urges citizens to report any wildlife sightings, emergencies, or potential illegal activities to their local DENR office. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/KG, GMA News
