Two more in Cavite coed's rape-slay case arrested
MANILA, Philippines - Police operatives on Thursday announced the arrest of two of the several male suspects still at large in connection with the rape-slay of coed last year in Dasmarinas, Cavite. In a report aired over GMA News' 24 Oras, police Inspector Ruther Saquilayan - chief of the Intelligence and Follow-Up Division of Dasmarinas PNP - identified the arrested suspects as Alberto Malimbao, tricycle driver, and Jolan Algara, barker. Malimbao and Algara were arrested in Pitong Gubay, Paliparan 3, through a warrant of arrest issued by the Imus Regional Trial Court. They were earlier identified as suspects in the rape-slay of Sheena Galamgam. Earlier reports said that Sheena was on her way to visit her father at General Mariano Alvarez (GMA) in Cavite to deliver a birthday gift on August 20, 2007. The victim was said to be walking along the main road of Mabuhay City Subdivision, Paliparan 3, Dasmariñas when she was dragged by the suspects toward a sugarcane field. Galamgamâs lifeless body was discovered in a cane plantation in Paliparan 3, a week after her family declared her missing. Saquilayan said the two admitted their participation in the crime but said they merely acted as look-outs. âAccording to them sila nag-look out lang at ang idinidiin nila yun alias Kalbo," said Insp Saquilayan. Saquilayan said police operation continues to arrest remaining suspects still at large. After a month, the police filed The Dasmariñas police filed rape with homicide charges against Richard Alonzo, Benjamin Pacpac, Gregorio Hilima and Jolan Algara after a witness surfaced and said that the group had participated in raping and beating up the victim with a piece of wood. Police later filed the same charges against several additional suspects - Alberto Malimbao, Segundo Garcia, Oscar Lavinia, and a certain Mac-Mac, all of Paliparan 3, Dasmariñas, Cavite. Alonzo and Pacpac were arrested in an earlier operation. They were joined by Malimbao and Algara on Thursday. The rest are still at large. - Fidel Jimenez, GMANews.TV
