Jueteng on the rise again in Pampanga - guv

MANILA, Philippines - Jueteng in Pampanga province is once again on the rise and it’s using the legalized small-town lottery (STL) as a cover, Governor Ed Panlilio said Thursday. “STL is just a cover-up for jueteng,” Panlilio said during a No Holds Barred forum organized by the National Press Club. Panlilio, a staunch anti-illegal gambling crusader, said with STL as a "cover," jueteng has become more rampant. "We interviewed one of the so-called sales agents, and he said that the jueteng lords are still the ones dictating the how much they would give the government instead of giving the mandated 10 percent of the total earnings (of STL)," he said. He added that “kubradors” (bet collectors) are now posing as “sales agents.” Because of this development, Panlilio concluded that “happy days are here again” for jueteng operators. Panlilio said he has no plans of using the P15 million the STL operators had given the Pampanga government as part of provincial capital. - GMANews.TV
