Baguio hospital eyed as north trauma center
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines - The Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) is being eyed as a trauma center in the north of Manila. In line with the government's project of improving disaster preparedness capability, Department of Health (DOH) Regional Director Myrna Cabotaje said in a press briefing that BGHMC is slowly being groomed as a trauma center in the north. Asked of the possibility that there should also be specialized hospitals in Baguio to respond to cases that require the expertise of specialized doctors, Cabotaje said networking with nearby hospitals in La Union is being done in the meantime. In instances where transporting a patient is required, she said proper administration of first aid as well as the presence of basic equipment to address trauma could help save lives. "The attending physician is in the best judgment to determine if a patient should be transported," she said. - Sun.Star Baguio
