Duterte meets with NPAs, seeks Manero brod's release
MANILA, Philippines - Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte met with the officers of the communist New People's Army (NPA) to seek the release of a brother of released priest killer Norberto Manero, dzBB radio reported Tuesday. Radio dzBB's Davao affiliate reported that Duterte, known for his tough approach against crime, met with NPA officials in an undisclosed place. The report said that during the meeting, Duterte appealed to the rebels to release retired Army Sgt. Jose Manero, if he is still alive. The NPA abducted Jose Manero earlier this year. The radio report, however, failed to disclose whether the rebels agreed to Duterte's appeal or if Jose Manero is still alive. In the same radio report, Duterte also told the NPAs to "exempt" his city from its attacks, noting they had conducted several attacks in neighboring areas in past weeks. He warned them he will meet force with force if they dare attack his city. - GMANews.TV
