Downpour disrupts Iloilo water supply anew
MANILA, Philippines â Several districts of Iloilo City were still waterless on Thursday as a result of the destruction of transmission pipes of the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) on Tuesday night, a report said. Online news site The News Today (www.thenewstoday.info) said the downpour also disrupted efforts to restore the supply of potable water to Iloilo, one of the provinces hit hardest by typhoon "Frank" last June. The pipes were located in Amerang village in Cabatuan town. Repair work on the damaged pipeline were barely completed when heavy rains caused a river to overflow, damaging two 250-mm pipelines and a 150-mm pipeline, said MIWD acting head Ernesto Caberoy. Among the districts that were affected were La Paz, Jaro, Barrio. Obrero and City proper. Earlier, the same pipeline, which connects the water coming from the town of Maasin to the MIWD reservoir in Sta. Barbara, was destroyed during typhoon "Frank." Caberoy said it will take three days to repair the damaged water pipelines. Last week, the water district managed to resume 70 percent of its operation and was about to release the result of their water laboratory results. - GMANews.TV
