MANILA, Philippines – Japan has extended a P3.6 million grant for a housing project for 600 residents of Antique province who had been affected by Typhoon Frank. Japanese ambassador Makoto Kastura and Antique Gov. Salvacion Perez signed the contract last August 1, according to a statement posted on the Japanese embassy website (www.ph.emb-japan.go.jp). The Project for Construction of Housing Units in the Province of Antique will be funded through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). This project aims to benefit 100 households, or about 600 people, in the towns of San Remigio and Sibalom in the Western Visayan province on Panay Island. Antique was one of the areas devasted by Typhoon Frank when it hit the Philippines last June. Out of 18 towns of Antique, San Remigio and Sibalom were the hardest hit. More than 56,500 people were affected and 1,056 houses were totally destroyed.
