South Cotabato gov takes over provincial jail amid unrest
MANILA, Philippines â South Cotabato provincial governor Daisy Avance-Fuentes on Thursday she was taking control of the provincial jail amid unrest among inmates. Bombo Radyo Koronadal quoted Fuentes as saying she arrived at the decision after the jailâs 800 inmates started a hunger strike and noise barrage Wednesday morning to protest the alleged excesses of jail warden Nilo Sintin. Fuentes, citing reports reaching her, said she does not want the violence to mar the protest, where some inmates broke items inside the jail and even tried to raid its armory. The governor was in Metro Manila on Wednesday after being summoned by Malacañang as part of preparations for the Aug. 11 election in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). Inmated ârebelled" on Wednesday against Warden Sintin, whom they accused of abusing his authority. - GMANews.TV
