Bulacan town councilor killed in ambush

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – A Bulacan municipal councilor was shot dead when armed men on board a motorcycle staged an ambush before midnight Tuesday in Baliuag, Bulacan. Police identified the victim as Fidel Castro Nacion Jr., 38, a municipal councilor of San Rafael town. He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds after he was strafed with an Armalite riffle inside his car by the suspects, said Supt. Richie Posadas, Provincial Officer of the 3rd Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit. The victim's sports utility vehicle (Honda CRV, ZDT-766) was riddled with bullets. Scene of the crime investigators found several spent shells from an Armalite near Nacion’s vehicle. Nacion’s driver/ security-aide identified as Oscar Hipolito Isidro was spared from the attack, police said. Nacion, the youngest town councilor in San Rafael town, was also engaged in junk plastic buy and sell business. Before the killing, Posadas said the victim attended a bowling competition at the Baliuag Recreation Center with a colleague before meeting his older brother at the Chorus beer joint situated across the road in front of the BRC. After downing several bottles of beer, police investigators said Nacion boarded his car with his driver and headed for home. Moments after Nacion asked his driver to buy tapsilog, two gunmen on board a motorcycle opened fire at the victim’s vehicle, fatally hitting him. Nacion was a former municipal employee of San Rafael town before he was elected councilor. No clear motive has yet been established as all investigating units are still in the area gathering vital information related to the death of Nacion. The 3rd CIDU investigators vowed to get into the bottom of the case with the help of local police in Baliuag and other investigating agencies. - Ashley Jay Manabat, GMANews.TV
