1 missing in Candaba flash floods

MANILA, Philippines - At least one person was reported missing as flash floods hit Candaba town in Pampanga province, Mayor Jerry Pelayo said Thursday night. Pelayo said portions of the town's dike burst, prompting him to consider a forced evacuation of houses near the Pampanga River. "Nagkaroon ng isang tao nahulog sa ilog kanina (There was at least one person who fell into the river)," he said in an interview on dzBB radio. He identified the person as Antonio Pelayo, who he said was standing near his house when floods suddenly swept him away. The mayor said that as of 7 p.m., at least 11 villages had been flooded.
