Vice mayor gunned down in Tarlac

MANILA, Philippines — A town vice mayor in the northern province of Tarlac was gunned down by still unidentified assailants on Saturday, a local executive said. Mayor Jose Villa Agustin of San Manuel town in Tarlac said Vice Mayor Reynaldo Malazo died instantly when gunmen on board a motorcycle peppered him with bullets in front of his own house at about 2 p.m. Saturday. “Unfortunately, my vice mayor did not survive the attack," Agustin said in a radio interview. Citing initial police investigation, Agustin said Malazo and his driver were talking in front of Malazo’s house, which is along the national highway, when the gunmen attacked. “Police are still looking for witnesses. It’s difficult to speculate about the motive for the killing. Our ABC president was also killed just recently," the mayor said. - GMANews.TV
