Coast Guard seizes guns found inside abandoned bag in Cebu port

MANILA, Philippines - Coast Guard operatives seized on Sunday night at least eight firearms found inside a bag which was abandoned in the vicinity of a sea port in Cebu province, a radio report said early Monday. Radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo cited initial reports reaching Coast Guard commandant Vice Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo indicating the firearms were recovered at a port in Mandaue in Cebu. The firearms, which included six cal-.38 revolvers and two cal-.45 pistols, were inside a yellow bag which was likely abandoned by its owner due to the port's tight security, Tamayo said.. The official also said that during the All Saints' weekend, Coast Guard authorities intercepted firecrackers at ports in Lucena City in Quezon province and in Batangas province. He said Coast Guard operatives also recovered a life raft in Manila Bay, and rescued two minors from an illegal recruiter in Visayas aboard SuperFerry 19. The Coast Guard also rescued a pawikan (sea turtle) in Malabon City, he said. - GMANews.TV
