Embattled Bataan gov holes up in provincial capitol

MANILA, Philippines - Facing a suspension order over a graft case, embattled Bataan Governor Enrique Garcia holed up in his office and spent Tuesday night at the provincial capitol in Balanga City. Radio dwIZ reported that as of Wednesday morning, Garcia remained inside his office while his supporters barricaded the provincial capitol. Garcia, who sought a temporary restraining order from the Court of Appeals earlier this week, had said he will step down on Friday if no TRO is issued. The dwIZ report said the standoff has paralyzed operations of the provincial government, as Vice Governor Serafin Roman could not take over. Roman was named officer-in-charge while Garcia's suspension is in effect. Also, the dwIZ report said the resulting tension had resulted in at least one person being mauled during the standoff. - GMANews.TV
