Aklan gets new provincial police chief amid security concerns in Boracay

KALIBO, Philippines - The Aklan Provincial Police Office will soon get a new commander amid security issues in the province's Boracay Island. Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez on Wednesday said he received a call from National Police chief Director General Jesus Verzosa informing him of the appointment of Senior Superintendent Clarence Guinto as chief of the provincial police. Marquez also said during their conversation, Verzosa expressed concern over the current peace and order situation in Boracay. "I was told that Guinto will be coming anytime today (Wednesday). But although General Versoza have already informed me that a new police director will be coming over, I am still waiting for the official letter of appointment," said Marquez. With Guinto's appointment as Aklan's police chief, Superintendent Larry Decena who is currently acting provincial police director would go back to his original designation as deputy provincial police chief. Last week, the Aklan Police have engaged in a violent demolition in Boracay which injured some residents. Also, an Australian national complained that he was held hostage inside his leased resort in this resort island. Prior to his assignment here, Guinto heads the Regional Investigation and Detection Management Office in the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO). - GMANews.TV
