Storm alert up in Palawan as ‘Tonyo’ approaches


MANILA, Philippines — Palawan province was placed under Storm Signal No. 1 Saturday morning as tropical depression "Tonyo" approached, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said. In its 11 a.m. advisory, Pagasa said "Tonyo" was 210 km east of Puerto Princesa City as of 10 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center. "Tonyo" was moving west-northwest at 22 kph and is expected to be 260 km west-northwest of Puerto Princesa City Sunday morning. By Monday morning it is expected to be 760 km west-northwest of Puerto Princesa City. Aside from Palawan, no other area was placed under storm signals. However, Pagasa alerted residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes against possible flashfloods and landslides. - GMANews.TV
