Bomb experts detonate IED from Kabacan church


KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines - Members of the 603rd Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) based in this city detonated on Monday another bomb planted in front of Iglesia ni Cristo church in Kabacan, North Cotabato. The improvised explosive device (IED), fashioned from a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) attached with timer and a blasting cap, was discovered by a bystander who happened to pass by the area around 6:10 am. This was the third time that the bomb experts found an IED in Kabacan, particularly in front of the INC house of worship. Bomb experts found an IED - fashioned from an 81mm - planted near the gate of said church. On Saturday morning, early joggers accidentally found two 61mm bombs in the same place. Kabacan PNP chief of police, Inspector Frank Abito, said that they have suspects behind the incidents. Abito disclosed this in an inteview over local radio station dxND of the Notre Dame Broadcasting Corporation (NDBC). He, however, refused to identify the suspects. Abito, in the same talk, ordered his policemen to implement tight security particularly in the thickly populated areas such as school, churches and even the public market to preempt any lawless elements from sowing terroristic acts in Kabacan. The Kabacan chief of police also assured the members of the Iglesia ni Cristo that an in-depth investigation was being conducted.
