Floods in Northern Samar kill 2 - NDCC
MANILA, Philippines - At least two people were confirmed dead in flooding caused by rains in Eastern Visayas, the National Disaster Coordinating Council said Tuesday. In its report on floods in the area, NDCC identified the fatalities as Jeoffrey Cobreros of Bubon in Northern Samar; and Enrico Laurino of Palapag, Northern Samar. NDCC, in a report dated 10:30 p.m. Monday but posted on its website Tuesday afternoon, also said that at least 516 families or 3,040 persons were affected in Northern Samar. In Oras in Eastern Samar, 3,200 families in 30 villages were affected, but residents started returning to their homes as the floodwaters had begun to subside. The NDCC report said that in Samar, the Calbayog-Catarman road along the Cabacuangan-may ubay section was flooded. In Northern Samar, the Bobon-Trujillo Road in Quezon village and the Bantayan-San Roque and Simora-Catubig section were "hardly passable." As of 8 p.m. Monday, 371 passengers were stranded, including 351 in Matnog, Sorsogon; two in Placer, Masbate; 18 in San Pascual, Masbate; 153 stranded trucks, nine small cars and one vessel. - GMANews.TV
