Water in 2 Guimaras villages infected with e-coli
MANILA, Philippines - Authorities in Guimaras province cut off water supply to two villages in Jordan town after a recent study found water samples there to contain the e-coli bacteria. Online news site The News Today reported that Jordan Water District said the temporary shutdown was a "management decision." Some strains of e-coli (Escherichia coli) can cause serious food poisoning. Jordan Water District general manager Nelson Bebangco identified the affected villages as San Miguel and Ravena, two of the most populated in the island-province. But he allayed fears of the locals, saying water treatment and disinfectants will take care of the contamination. The report said it was not immediately clear how many families were affected by the water supply shutdown. On the other hand, water district officials have yet to ascertain when normal operations will resume in the two villages. In the meantime, residents had to rely on commercial water stations for their potable water supply. - GMANews.TV
