PNP to probe rise of rape cases in Aklan

MANILA, Philippines - Police in Aklan province have started a full-scale investigation into the rise of incidence of rape in the last two months, an online news site reported. The News Today reported that Aklan provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Clarence Guinto ordered the investigation. "We in the Aklan PNP prioritized the safety of women and children. This is the reason why I ordered full investigation on this incidents," said Guinto. Guinto cited reports that at least seven rape cases, whose victims' ages range from five to 20 years old, have already been recorded since January. He said the reports indicated at least three rape cases have been recorded in the Boracay Police Station alone. One sex abuse case each has been recorded in the towns of Numancia, Makato, Madalag, New Washington, Altavas and Kalibo. Police also said that aside from the complainants who had already come into the open, there are also more victims who have yet to file their complaints. "We wanted to know what are the factors involved? Why there are rising rape cases now in Aklan, in order for us to find ways how we could prevent it," Guinto said. - GMANews.TV
