Sagay river cruise launched

MANILA, Philippines — The Sagay City government in Negros Occidental has launched a two-hour Himoga-an River Cruise from Fabrica to Old Poblacion village to promote newest tourist attraction in the city. Online news site Visayan Daily Star (www.visayandailystar.com) reported Sagay Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cuevas said the tourism will give livelihood opportunities for locals. Areas passed by the cruise will also be developed through the coordinated effort of the community and the city government, Cuevas said. He said tapping Sagay’s tourism potential is one of the priorities of the city government under the administration of Mayor Alfredo Marañon. Fabrica village chief Merly Divinagracia said the project was conceptualized in 1989 and was patterned after the Loboc River Cruise in Bohol. She said the development of Himoga-an River will benefit the people in Fabrica through self-initiated and government-assisted livelihood projects. The two-hour cruise features the old muscovado millsite and the lumber factory in Fabrica. - GMANews.TV
