Davao mayor orders pullout of all peanut butter brands

MANILA, Philippines — Following the discovery of salmonella in two batches of peanut butter, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte ordered the pullout of all brands of peanut butter in markets in the city. A report by online news site Mindanao Daily Mirror (www.dailymirror.ph) said that the mayor wants the sale and distribution of peanut butter stopped until authorities declare the other brands safe for consumption. As early as Tuesday morning, a supermarket along Bajada, Davao City already withdrew all brands of peanut butter from display, the report said. The city's Business Bureau formally issued Duterte’s order. In an advisory dated March 12, the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) ordered the immediate recall of Yummy Sweet and Creamy Peanut Spread 224 grams and 490 grams covered by Batch Nos. 3040905 and 11240810, respectively, manufactured by Samuya Food Manufacturing, Inc. BFAD also advised the consumers not to eat peanut spread products covered by the batch number identified above and for persons to immediately see a doctor if they think they have become ill because of eating the above quoted peanut butter brands. It also directed distributors, retailers and manufacturers to stop distributing and selling the same peanut spread products. BFAD is testing more locally manufactured peanut butter products for salmonella poisoning. - GMANews.TV
