Blast rocks Cotabato City bus terminal

MANILA, Philippines - An explosion rocked a passenger bus terminal in southern Philippines Sunday and partially damaged at least two buses, a police official said. Cotabato City Police chief Senior Superintendent Willie Dangane said the explosion occurred at about 2:45 a.m. at the Husky Bus Terminal in Barangay Tamontaka in Cotabato City. No one was injured in the blast that police probers said was from an improvised explosive device of a still unknown type. Dangane said the explosion damaged an aircon and non-aircon bus with plane numbers MVT 975 and LWE-710, respectively. It also damaged one of the terminal’s concrete walls. The official said that prior to the explosion, two suspicious-looking men were spotted by the security guard at the vicinity of the terminal. The security guard, as well as other tenants of the facility, has been invited by investigators to shed light on the incident. “Police investigators are looking into extortion and transport business rivalry as possible motive," Dangane said, adding that the police have been asked to coordinate closely with the Husky Bus management in the conduct of a thorough investigation. - GMANews.TV
