Help victims of Cebu road accident, Palace orders DSWD


MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang has ordered the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to provide assistance to victims in a grisly predawn road accident in Cebu province. Press Secretary Cerge Remonde, a native of Cebu, issued the order while hosting a golf game for media at the Malacañang Park in Manila. “I am hereby directing the DSWD to immediately look into this accident and provide all possible assistance to the victims. As a Cebuano I will do everything I can to help," he said when interviewed on government-run dzRB radio. At least 13 people were killed while 10 others were injured in the accident that occurred in Naga town in Cebu province before dawn Saturday. Citing initial reports, Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong said the minibus, which carried most of the fatalities, was running at high speed when it collided head-on with a trailer truck. The incident, which occurred at about 5 a.m., involved an ADC Liner minibus (GWL-225) and a trailer truck (GWH-298). Bus operator Eladio Pelalhoy promised he would provide assistance to the victims.- GMANews.TV
