Cop killed, village chief wounded in predawn duel

MANILA, Philippines — A policeman was killed while a village chief was seriously wounded in a predawn duel in Bulacan province, a radio report said late Tuesday. Radio dzXL reported that the incident occurred at Santo Cristo village in San Jose del Monte town in Bulacan at about 1:30 a.m. The fatality was initially identified as PO2 Edmund Belarmino, of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group. Under observation at a nearby hospital was Eladio Ramos, village chief of the area. Sketchy initial reports showed the two had an argument when they crossed each other's path.
