Ground fault causes 1-hour Mindanao brownout

MANILA, Philippines — A ground fault caused an hour-long power outage in parts of Mindanao, including Davao City, late Thursday morning, an online news site reported Friday. Online news site Mindanao Daily Mirror (www.dailymirror.ph) said the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said initial findings showed that the Pulangi-Tagoloan 134 kilovolt transmission lines 1 and 2 tripped because of a ground fault in line 2 at around 11:28 a.m. Spokeswoman Bambie Capulong said the trip caused cascading brownouts in north central, northeastern, southeastern, and southwestern Mindanao. NCGP restored power at around 11:50 a.m. Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) said after the power cutoff from NGCP, it operated its Bajada power plant at 11:34 a.m. to supply hospitals, government installations, and some customers in the downtown area. DLPC received power from NGCP at 11:51 a.m., after which it immediately worked to restore power in the franchise area. Power was normalized at 12:41 p.m., it said. - GMANews.TV
