Belgian national killed, 13 hurt in bus-van collision

MANILA, Philippines — A Belgian national was killed while 13 people were injured in a collision between a bus and a van at the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway in Batangas Wednesday morning. Radio dzXL reported Wednesday the incident occurred at the portion of STAR Tollway in Malainin village in Ibaan town in Batangas. Initial investigation showed the RRCG bus was overtaking another vehicle when it hit a Kia van (VBJ-806) heading for Manila. Killed in the incident was Pierre Perider, a passenger of the van. Police arrested the bus driver identified as Joel Andaya, who now faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide at multiple physical injuries.
