Security escort shot dead in a Cotabato hotel – police

MANILA, Philippines – Unidentified armed men on Tuesday night gunned down the security escort of a former local official in Cotabato City, police said Wednesday. City police head Senior Superintendent Willie Dangane said Abs Mongkal was waiting for his employer, Datu Jamael Sinsuat, at the El Manuel Hotel in Pendulum Avenue, at about 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, when the gunmen opened fire at him. Mongkal died instantly and the suspects immediately fled the scene on board a black vehicle toward Quezon Avenue, said Dangane in a report to national police headquarters. Police are now following the suspects’ trail and are investigating the incident, even as they suspected that Mongkal’s killing might be motivated by personal grudge. – Katrina Elaine Alba, GMANews.TV
