NPA rebels attack Cafgu detachment in Camarines Sur
MANILA, Philippines â Suspected communist New People's Army (NPA) rebels attacked a Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit detachment in Sipocot, Camarines Sur before dawn Tuesday. Bombo Radyo reported the attack triggered a three-hour firefight between the NPAs and government troops that ended past 5 a.m. Lt. Col. Neneviegh Alcovindas, public information officer of the Army's 9th Infantry Division, said at least 50 rebels took part in the attack. The report said the rebels used land mines in the attack on the detachment at Lubigan village in Sipocot town, but were eventually repelled. The military claimed there was no casualty on the government side, adding there were some casualties suffered by the NPAs, as shown by traces of blood in the area. After the encounter, the rebels fled toward the mountainous areas of Sipocot, the military said. - GMANews.TV
