NDCC: Flash floods in Rizal affect 500 families
Flash floods brought by heavy rains affected at least 500 families in Tanay town in Rizal province Friday afternoon, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said. In a Friday evening report, the NDCC said the floods from upland villages swarmed Sitio Batac and Sitio Bauyo of Kutyo village. "Said areas affected (are) near Manila East (Ayala Bridge), which is surrounded by river. As a result, most families living along the river banks were heavily affected," it said. Of the 500 families affected, 22 were temporarily sheltered in Ilaya Elementary School. These included 22 adults and 39 children from Sitio Bauyo. At least three houses were destroyed while 20 were damaged. As of 5 a.m. Sunday, the country's weather bureau said there was no typhoon in the Philippine area of responsibility. But it warned residents in the Southern Luzon Region (where Rizal town is) will expect mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. - GMANews.TV
