14 rescued off Camotes after banca capsizes


At least 14 people, including four Japanese tourists, were rescued Monday night after their motor banca capsized off Camotes Island in Cebu province, the Coast Guard said Tuesday. Coast Guard District Cebu Commander Rolando Dizon said the motor banca "World Big Four" capsized at 4:20 p.m. Monday, but a passing fishing boat rescued them. The Coast Guard Action Center in Manila said the vessel left Cebu port at 11 a.m. Monday en route to Baybay, Leyte but encountered strong winds and big waves. One of the passengers, Gary Legaspi, reported the incident to the Coast Guard Action Center. At about 7:30 p.m., fishing boat FB Fisto rescued the passengers, who included: • Fulvio Cuizon Sr. (boat captain), 51; • Fulvio Cuizon Jr. (crew), 30; • Felix Cuizon, 17; • Rene Hortilano, 30; • Clifford Baunsit, 24; • Romel Ramirez, 24; • Juliet Gumapac, tourist guide, 34; • Miyasima Takeo, 57; • Mishimura Michiyo, 20; • Nishimura Sayumi, 17; • Asada Shoichi, 55; • Shaine Mae Narisma, 23; • Geraldine Tampos, 24; and • Francis Ortaliza, 25. All rescued passengers were brought to Santiago Beach Resort, in San Francisco, Camotes Island for medical check-up. "All were found to be in good physical condition. The boat captain of M/B World Big Four was also advised to file a Marine Protest regarding the incident," the Coast Guard said. - GMANews.TV
