Report: Abducted ex-army official released after 2 weeks

A retired Army officer who was abducted in Mindanao earlier this month has been released after two weeks in captivity, a radio report said Saturday. Radio dzXL cited initial reports indicating that retired Master Sergeant Benjamin Almonte was released in Kabasalan town in Zamboanga Sibugay province. The report said Almonte’s family remained mum on whether ransom was paid for his release. Unidentified men abducted Almonte while he was fishing in Zamboanga City last Feb. 6. — LBG, GMANews.TV
