DOH warns vs 'Styrofoam-tainted' chicharon in Cordillera

Health authorities on Saturday warned consumers against buying a brand of chicharon that supposedly contains crushed Styrofoam. A report on dzXL radio said the Health Department initially received reports of such items being sold in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). Engineer Gaudencio Tiwing of the Health Department's health operations unit in CAR said the food items came under the brand “mines meat products" and supposedly sourced from Pampanga. He said the Health Department is working with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to analyze samples of the snack items. Tiwing said they are not discounting other chemicals may have been added to the products. Chicharon is a popular fingerfood among Filipinos, made of fried pork rinds, or seasoned pork skin and deep-fried. — LBG, GMANews.TV
