Coast Guard probes oil leak off Ilocos Norte

The Philippine Coast Guard started Tuesday an investigation into a reported oil leak from a Korean vessel off Ilocos Norte province. In his report, radio dzBB’s Allan Gatus cited initial findings of the Coast Guard indicating that the oil leak came from the engine room of the MV Namyang 8. Initial reports from the Coast Guard’s Northern Luzon unit showed that while the leak was "not alarming," Coast Guard personnel have started monitoring the condition of the ship. MV Namyang 8 had been under the custody of the Bureau of Customs, after running aground off Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte last January. The Philippine Coast Guard headquarters in Manila also ordered its Ilocos-based personnel to take environment protection measures especially if the leak gets worse. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
