DepEd: Polls in 19 villages in Dagupan moved to Oct 27
The Department of Education (DepEd) said the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in at least 19 villages in Dagupan City in Pangasinan was moved to Wednesday. The DepEd said the concerned election officers in Dagupan confirmed this as of 9 a.m. Tuesday. "Region 1 - Dagupan City 19 brgys postponed election to Oct 27 as certified by election officer," it said in its Twitter account. However, the DepEd did not say if the reason for the postponement of elections was the late delivery of election paraphernalia, or the damage caused by super typhoon "Juan" (international name: Megi). Polls were delayed in some areas in Northern Luzon, including hard-hit areas in Isabela province, due to the damage caused by "Juan." On the other hand, the DepEd cited a report that an explosion occurred near a polling center in Region 12 after the canvassing was concluded. There were no casualties, it said. In Region 11, DepEd said Saranggani teachers who refused to serve as election tellers because of gunshots were replaced. The elections were held after the teachers were replaced. DepEd said elections in Western Visayas were "generally peaceful and orderly." Some villages in Antique are conducting polls Tuesday. Elections were "generally peaceful and orderly" as well in Central Visayas, the DepEd added. In Bicol, DepEd said election materials were delivered in Camarines Norte Monday night. âVVP, GMANews.TV
