Village chief in Lemery, Batangas shot dead


A barangay (village) official in Lemery town in Batangas province was shot dead early Monday morning after arriving from an out-of-town seminar, a police report said. Barangay Captain Kenneth Reyes, 27, had just alighted from a van and was walking to his house at P. De Joya Street in Barangay Maguihan at about 1:40 a.m. when two men shot him several times from behind, the report said. Reyes was brought to Caysasay Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The suspects, meanwhile, fled on foot toward Barangay Sambal Ibaba. Recovered from the crime scene were two empty shells of caliber .45 pistol and one deformed slug of the same caliber. Investigation by the Lemery police is ongoing to determine the motive behind the killing. Reyes had just came from a seminar in Cebu City when he was killed. - KBK, GMA News
