At least 11 people were killed due to heavy rains and strong winds caused by Tropical Storm Juaning (Nock-Ten), which battered southern Luzon and Metro Manila on Tuesday. Senior Superintendent Victor Deona, police deputy regional director for operations in Bicol, said three of the fatalities were siblings, who died in a landslide at Barangay Gabon in Polangui town in Albay. The three were identified as Josh Corteza, 4; Nicole Corteza, 7; and Bernard Corteza, 9. Meanwhile, Demetrio Nace and his three-year-old child were killed when a tree fell on their house at Barangay Masicao in Pioduran town in Albay. Another fatality was identified Verta Dacuba, who died from electrocution at Purok 3 in Tiwi town, also in Albay, at about 10 a.m. Noel Angeles, 49, was killed after being hit by a falling electric post at Peñafrancia village in Panganiban town in Catanduanes.
Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV, director of the Office of the Civil Defense in the Bicol Region, said one person died in Daraga, Albay; one in Tinambac, Camarines Sur; and two from Baras, Catanduanes. Alejandro added that one person, not immediately identified, has so far been reported injured. Meanwhile, six people were reported missing â two fishermen from Baras, Catanduanes; three fishermen from Rapu-Rapu, Albay; and one in Bato town in Camarines Sur. The six fishermen who were reported missing in Eastern Samar last Monday had been rescued on the same day. In Polilio town in Quezon, a fishing boat MB Kimrick capsized Tuesday dawn off Balesin island. One of the 15 crewmen was rescued by Army soldiers shortly after the incident while the rest swam to the shores of Quezon town where they were recovered by authorities. Alejandro said massive flooding has already isolated Legaspi City, where around 100,000 people have been affected. Roads from Catanduanes and Polangui town are impassable, he said. Authorities also said at least 630 passengers have been stranded at the ports in the Bicol region.
