Rainwater collection systems to be set up in 26 Visayas schools
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will set up rainwater collection systems will be set up in 26 schools in Eastern Visayas. The DPWH said the rainwater can be used by these schools which lack access to clean water. âAmong the types of rainwater collection system is the reinforced concrete ground storage tank that has a capacity of 8,000 liters of water, reinforced steel ground storage tank with 4,000 liters capacity, plastic container tank with 4,000 liters and the concrete stage storage tank with 60,000 liters capacity," the DPWH said. âIn Eastern Visayas, about 26 initial public schools will benefit with the construction of rain water collection systems that also promote water conservation among the students," it said. DPWH Region 8 Director Rolando Asis, noted that even though Eastern Visayas experienced much rain, many schools still do not have enough water for cleaning purposes. The project is part of the P38.4-million program to provide adequate water supply. The DPWH said the rainwater collection systems are part of the governmentâs climate change adaptation program.
