DepEd suspends elementary, HS classes in Isabela


Amid the threat from Tropical Storm Pedring (Nesat), the Department of Education on Monday suspended classes at the elementary and high school levels in Isabela province. DepEd Assistant Secretary Tonesito Umali noted that Isabela is one of the areas likely to be hit by Pedring, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported. The DepEd supervises classes in the preschool, kindergarten, elementary and high school levels. Classes at all levels had been suspended in Albay province for Monday. Meanwhile, the DepEd reminded schools of the rules on "automatic suspension" of classes. "Automatic suspension of classes in Kindergarten for areas under signal no.1; Kindergarten, Elem & High School for signal no. 2," it said on its Twitter account Monday. As of 5 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration had placed the following areas under Signal No. 2:

  • Isabela
  • Aurora
  • Catanduanes
  • Polillo Island
  • Camarines Norte
  • Camarines Sur Under Storm Signal No. 1 were:
  • Albay
  • Burias Island
  • Sorsogon
  • Quezon
  • Quirino
  • Ifugao
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Mt. Province
  • Kalinga
  • Cagayan — RSJ, GMA News
