DPWH: All roads in Bicol region passable except for Catanduanes


As tropical storm Pedring (international name: Nesat) intensified into a typhoon on Monday, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said all roads in the Bicol region remain passable, except for Catanduanes. The District Engineering Offices (DEOs) in Region V (Bicol Region) said there are minor floodings and landslides in Albay and Camarines Sur. According to the travel advisory issued by the DPWH as of 8:00 am on Monday, Catanduandes Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) teams will be deployed as soon as the weather permits. Meanwhile, DPWH Region X (Northern Mindanao) reported that Olayan Bridge in Bacusanaon, Pangantukan, Bukidnon is passable to all kinds of vehicles, except overloaded trucks. The allowable load capacity limit is only 5 tons. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) as of 11:00 a.m. on Monday placed 40 areas, including Metro Manila, were placed under storm signals:

  • 26 areas were placed under Storm Signal No. 1, and
  • 14 areas under Storm Signal No. 2. PAGASA said Pedring was moving faster and was expected to make landfall over northern Luzon on Tuesday morning. PAGASA estimated 15 to 25 millimeter per hour of rainfall within the 650-kilometer (km) diameter of Pedring. - VVP, GMA News
