Picnic turns tragic as two drown in Pangasinan beach


An outing in Pangasinan turned tragic after two people drowned while swimming at the beach of Alvear II in Lingayen town early on Monday. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Tuesday the victims were swept by successive waves and carried by a strong current. It identified the two fatalities as Samuel Balmores, 28; and Rowena Cuison, 28, of Lasip Chico village in Dagupan City. Rescue teams recovered the bodies of the two victims, who were declared dead on arrival at the Lingayen District Hospital. The NDRRMC said the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said the two people missing after being swept away by the current in a creek in Bukidnon Sunday have been confirmed dead. The NDRRMC said the bodies of Raymond Tenerefe and Karen Castro have been recovered. - VVP, GMA News
