Driver in deadly Antipolo truck crash seeks forgiveness from victims, kin


The driver of a truck that plowed into a row of houses and killed at least eight people and injured at least 13 in Antipolo City Thursday sought forgiveness from the victims' kin.
 
Philip Adriano, 42, said he never intended to cause any harm to anyone, according to a report on radio dzBB early Friday.
 
But Adriano also belied claims he was into drugs or that he fell asleep at the wheel shortly before the accident.
 
The driver also insisted he was familiar with the route, the report said.
 
He said he was heading home with his helper when the brakes of his truck failed, and he lost control.
 
An initial report by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the incident occurred at 11 a.m. Thursday along Sumulong Highway in Mambugan Village in Antipolo City.
 
It said the truck collided with other vehicles and houses along the highway.
 
The NDRRMC identified seven of the eight fatalities as:

  • Jhon Azucenas, 10
  • Jhon Marvin, 15
  • Rodel Cornelio, 15
  • Marilyn Corpus Reyes, 33
 
It identified the 13 injured as:

  • Melvin Bunag
  • Ramonito Asis
  • Catherine Balagat
