Bulacan fireworks vendors to raise prices Dec. 30

Expecting sales to peak on Friday, fireworks vendors in Bulacan province expect to raise prices of their products on that day.

Many vendors are planning to raise prices by as much as 30 to 50 percent on that day, according to a report on dzBB radio Wednesday.

But the report said the vendors are also planning to offer discounts of as much as 50 percent on Saturday afternoon, hours before the New Year arrives.

The report quoted fireworks vendors as saying they had to raise prices by as much as 30 percent this year because fewer companies are making the fireworks, while prices of raw materials had gone up.

As of Wednesday morning, buyers continued to flock to Bocaue town in Bulacan, considered the nation's fireworks capital, to buy fireworks to welcome the New Year.

The dzBB report noted a fiesta atmosphere at the stalls of fireworks vendors, as customers went there as early as 2 a.m.

On the other hand, the vendors also have put in place safety measures, including a container of water and fire extinguishers in case an accidental explosion triggers a fire.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police warned the public against buying new firecrackers, such as the "Magic Pop Angry Bird," that may be harmful. –KG, GMA News
