Tacloban residents preemptively evacuated due to floods from cold front


Several families in Tacloban City in Eastern Visayas were evacuated from their homes late Tuesday due to the possibility of flooding.
 
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the evacuation was done in Barangays 56 (Upper Nuna Tula) and Barangay 100 (San Roque) in Tacloban City.
 
"Debris and small stones started falling from the hillside; trucks were deployed to help in the evacuation," it said
 
In Ormoc City, barangay officials were alerted to evacuate residents if water levels continue to rise.
 
Officials of Bgy. Liloan in Ormoc City declared Sitio Isla a danger zone and requested Ormoc City officials to relocate residents.
 
In Leyte, San Joaquin village was declared under a state of calamity due to heavy rains and possible flooding.
 
Landslide and flood-prone areas in Palo, Tanauan and Dagami were monitored for possible evacuation.
 
Also, the NDRRMC said it is monitoring flooding in areas including:
  • Inayapan village in Isabel, Leyte near the Bito River Dam
  • Luan village in Dulag town
  • five villages in Merida, Leyte
 
The NDRRMC is on red alert to monitor the effects of the tail end of a cold front. –KG, GMA News
