Phivolcs: Magnitude-4.1 'aftershock' hits Eastern Samar area
A magnitude-4.1 quake jolted the Eastern Samar area in Eastern Visayas before dawn Friday, nearly three days after a powerful magnitude-5.9 quake hit the area.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was recorded at 4:23 a.m. Friday and was tectonic in origin.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the epicenter of the quake was at 34 km northeast of Mercedes in Eastern Samar.
Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity II in Mercedes, and Salcedo in Eastern Samar.
It said no damage or aftershock was expected from Friday's quake.

On Tuesday night, a magnitude-5.9 quake was recorded near Mercedes town in Eastern Samar.
Tuesday night's quake was felt at:
- Intensity V (Strong): Hernani, Salcedo, Borongan and Guiuan, Eastern Samar;
- Intensity IV (Moderately Strong): Tacloban, Palo and Tolosa, Leyte; Catbalogan, Samar; Dolores and San Policarpo, Eastern Samar;
- Intensity III (Weak): St. Bernard and Hinunangan, Southern Leyte; Catarman, Northern Samar, Surigao City;
- Intensity II (Slightly Felt): Naval, Biliran; and
- Intensity I (Scarcely Perceptible): Cebu City; Carascal, Surigao Del Sur.
Phivolcs had warned of possible damage and aftershocks from Tuesday's quake.
On Thursday, a magnitude-4.5 quake jolted Eastern Samar, with the epicenter at 89 km southeast of San Policarpio in Eastern Samar.— RSJ, GMA News
