Police arrest kidnap gang leader, member

A leader of a kidnap-for-ransom group believed operating in areas in Southern Luzon was arrested in Cavite province early Friday.

The suspect, identified as Rodel Ledesma, was linked to the abduction of a trader in Cavite province in 2011, radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr. reported.

Police also arrested a suspected gang member, Gabriel Maligsa, while serving a search warrant on Ledesma's house in Brgy. 3, Bacoor, Cavite.

Recovered from them were cal-.45 and cal-.32 handguns, a hand grenade and five packets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu).

The report said trader Benjamin Jaro arrived at the CIDG office in Camp Vicente Lim in Laguna and identified him as one of his kidnappers on April 1 last year in Cavite.

Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group head Chief Superintendent Samuel Pagdilao Jr. said the group is also being linked to criminal activities in Laguna, Cavite and Las Piñas City. — ELR, GMA News
